Korean Shipbuilder got better result
Korean major shipbuilders reported better results for the first nine months of the year as sales and profits increased from the same period in 2001.
Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering said net profit totaled 183.61 billion Korean won
(US$151.9 million) for the nine months ended Sept. 30 against $96.6 million for the same period a year ago.
Hyundai Heavy Industries net rose to US$107.02 million compared with
US$104.07 million for the nine-month period in 2001.
Samsung Heavy Industries saw its nine-month net profit improve dramatically, to
US$68.6 million from US$54.3 million. |

Collision in Tianjin Port
On Nov. 24, an oil tanker named ¡°Tasmansea¡± belonging to Maltese nationality collided with ¡°Shunkai No. 1¡± freighter in Tianjin Port's sea water resulting in the leakage of crude oil and pollution of sea water.
The investigation showed that ¡°Tasmansea¡± tanker loading 80,000t crude oil was broken in its No. 3 cabin and leaked crude oil in the sea water of 2.5 sea miles long and 1.4 sea miles wide.

Huge new wave of fuel oil from PRESTIGE
CLEAN-UP ships and fishermen battled to protect Spanish beaches from a huge new wave of fuel oil heading towards the north-west coast from the sunken tanker Prestige yesterday.
The vessel sank 11 days ago releasing thousands of tons of fuel oil into the Atlantic and creating the main slick that was reported to be about nine miles from Corrubedo on Spain¡¯s western coast. Smaller patches of oil were visible less than three miles from the north-western coast. |
